Oliva’s Refrigeration Service
378 Bedford Ave., nr. S. 5th St., Williamsburg; 718-387-5106
Oliva might look like the place old fridges go to die. But the dingy, graffitied warehouse beneath the Williamsburg Bridge actually breathes new life into used appliances by installing new parts into vintage exteriors. Oliva’s sells refurbished models from brand names—GE, Whirlpool, Kenmore—for ridiculously cheap: $100 to $150 for a basic freezer fridge and upwards of $700 for larger stainless-steel units. As a bonus, local deliveries and repair pickups are free, and they will happily cart away your old fridge—presumably destined for a second (or third) life in someone else’s apartment.
Best Used Refrigerator
Competition breeds the best. If only one pizzeria existed in New York, of course, there’d be no real winning slice. Thankfully, we’ll never know what that sorry situation tastes like, since pizza—like dance parties, dog runs, and fried chicken—has to evolve upward here.
