Profile

The first luxury-goods export boom, in Babylon 4,000 years ago, had a ripple effect, enriching the visual arts all over the Near East. This fruitful era is explored in “Beyond Babylon: Art, Trade, and Diplomacy in the Second Millennium B.C.,” which features 350 objects—some excavated only recently—discovered in royal palaces, temples, tombs, and a shipwreck. Murakami would be proud.
