Francophiles will find many tempting films at the Barbet Schroeder retrospective, but Paris Vu Par is the hardest to resist. In the 1965 Schroeder-produced anthology work, directors such as Jean-Luc Godard, Claude Chabrol, and jean-Daniel Pollet turn an eccentric cast of characters—a grief-stricken family man, a male model and his fling, a prostitute and her john—into moving postcards for the streets they inhabit. On the 17th, Schroeder himself will take questions and screen his latest, Inju: the Beast in the Shadows, the tale of two novelists and a geisha.
