This tri-level shop provides a bright, stylized contrast to the jam-packed antique stores that line this stretch of Atlantic Avenue. Lighting designer and sculptor Rico Espinet used to sell only lamps and fixtures, but he eventually added furniture and artwork to the showroom in order to give his incandescent creations some context. The locals who frequent the shop—often seeking wares for newly acquired high-rise luxury condos nearby—are thankful for his judiciously edited collection of home furnishings, since now they don't have to schlep into Manhattan to buy sectionals from American Leather, armless sofas by Dellarobbia, or a Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin chairs (three of Rico's most sought-after items). Of course, Espinet's glowing designs are the main attraction: The Marina votive light is based on a drinking glass, while the Buster floor lamp juxtaposes an enormous shade with a sleek, skinny base.
SalesRico's annual “Daylight Savings” lighting sale begins after the clocks change in November and runs through the fall. Check the store's web site for information about promotions from specific vendors.
Warm, dry, stylish options for braving the slush.
