SATYA JEWELRY
330 Bleecker St.
212-243-7313
After years of minimalism and a strict no-adornment ethos, recent runway trends have put costume jewelry front and center again (two words: rhinestone brooch). The Gap and Banana Republic have made admirable forays into the arena, but one of the most enjoyable places to rummage is at Satya, a compact boutique in the West Village whose delicate, colorful jewels have a slightly hippie feeling. There are earrings, bracelets, and necklaces made from silver and gold vermeil and adorned with semi-precious stones. The dangly hoop earrings with their fringes of garnet or citrine might be a little boho for an office job, but a subtle pendant on a thin gold chain will go anywhere. Handcrafted blue-topaz drop necklaces ($78), woven silver cuffs ($108), and 24-karat gold vermeil flower rings ($88) are so affordable that you don’t have to wait for the sample sale.
