Anne Robin Calligraphy

As a teenager, Robin started doing calligraphy for her friends’ bar mitzvahs and other events. While she can replicate the hallmark curlicues of traditional calligraphy, she’s best known for her sleek, streamlined lettering. Prices from $3 per envelope and $225 for an invitation template.

This talented artist is prominently featured in the Bergdorf Goodman mecca of finery, but that’s not the only place you can see his work. He’ll custom-address your envelopes for $3 to $5 per line, and he offers calligraphy, design, engraving, and preparation of an invite template just for you. Engraved invitation sets begin at approximately $3,000.

Former president of the Society of Scribes, Mary Anne Wolf specializes in replicating typefaces. In her twenty years as a calligrapher, Wolf has worked with many notable event planners (she even did the calligraphy for a Liza Minnelli wedding). She will work closely with all clients to ensure that the package’s calligraphy is flawless. Prices vary.

Calligraphy by Nan DeLuca

Nan DeLuca, a Society of Scribes board member, produces her elegant designs with inks and gouache, and her work is regularly featured in high-end wedding publications and books. Envelopes in black ink start at $4.50 each, while a full set of customized invitations starts at $350.

Deborah Delaney

Delaney works with an engraver and letterpress printer to create custom stationery and invitations for all occasions. It takes two to four weeks for her to fill orders. Calligraphy on 100 invitation-envelope sets begin at $800.

Elana Weinberg

Couples who want original marriage contracts rather than prints come to Weinberg. After your consultation at her Upper West Side home, she’ll pore over her books and inscribe a quote—in Hebrew, English, or Aramaic—that expresses what’s dear to you or the etymology of your Hebrew names (from $1,200).

Esta Cohen Calligraphy

In two weeks’ time, Cohen can create beautiful designs using paints or inks; she writes in eleven different fonts. Her Westchester County business has flourished through word of mouth, and Manhattanites who’ve been to a lot of local weddings will probably recognize her work. Prices are from $3 for a three-line address, plus 75 cents for each additional line.

Harriet Rose Calligraphy & Design

Rose can do invitations, envelopes, menus, program covers, place cards—you name it. She can even match her lettering on envelopes to your printed invitations and will hand-paint artwork for a one-of-a-kind look. Book an appointment at least two months before you need the cards, but in a pinch, she can get 100 envelopes ready in just one to two weeks (from $4 an envelope).

Jane Labanz of The Delicate Pen

Labanz, a former dancer and concert pianist, shows the grace of an artist in lettering and hand-painting. Addressing begins at $8 per envelope; invitation work begins at $20 per line; full invitation sets begin at $10 per set. Known for her refined and polished taste, Labanz is also a great source for other wedding vendors.

The Jewish Museum Gift Shops

This store carries ketubot by more than 30 American and Israeli artists, with texts ranging from Orthodox to same-sex, in Hebrew and English ($40 to $400; order four to six weeks in advance). For an extra $75, artists will fill in the blank areas of each lithograph with beautiful calligraphy.

Kaleidakolor Calligraphy Studio

With 25 years of experience as a calligrapher and former president of the Society of Scribes, Margaret Harber has developed an extensive repertoire of styles and calligraphy specialties. She writes in copperplate, italics, specialty hands, and matching typefaces. Prices start at $4.50 an envelope.

Nancy Howell Calligraphy

Pick from one of Howell’s unique styles, from the Gaelic-inspired Uncial lettering to neo-traditional Baroque calligraphy. Her spectrum encompasses both conventional aesthetics and fanciful whimsy. Invitations start at $300.

Our Ketubah

Elyse Stein Meyerson has been hand-painting ketubot for seven years. She uses rich colors and intricate detail to create each ketubot based on the personal style and requests of each couple. The document can be inscribed with words or vows written by the couple. Originals start at $1,000; prints are $600.

Stephanie Caplan

In 1997, Caplan opened her studio to Jewish, interfaith, and same-sex couples who wanted custom ketubot. Caplan’s style is simple and modern and always in watercolors. After a free consultation, she’ll send you a color sketch for approval. Custom work from $1,500; limited-edition prints from $250.

Sue Kakstys

Kakstys has been a wedding-invitation envelope designer for more than twenty years, and her clients include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Ralph Lauren, and the Vanderbilt family. She works in a classic style called Chancery Cursive and will accommodate special requests like transcribing handwritten letters to future in-laws and poems for grooms-to-be. Envelopes start at $2.50.

For more than twenty years, master calligrapher Ted Kadin has been creating elegant wedding invitations and envelope suites for clients like Vera Wang, Gucci, and Cartier. Wedding-invitation texts begin at $500; prices for hand-lettered envelope sets vary.
