Known for broad-shouldered square-cut suits, Boss makes formal wear that’s sharp enough for movers and shakers who have reached 50—and cool enough for their sons. Grooms can choose from impeccable designs like the three-button tuxedo with single pleats ($795), or the one-button, pinstriped satin-lapel suit ($1,000).

Jack Silver Formalwear

J.Crew

The Web-only bridal boutique features limited options for tuxedos, but with a jacket for $450, pants for $195, and black satin cummerbund for $75, J.Crew is an excellent inexpensive option for grooms’ wear. Ideal for grooms or groomsmen, the several suit options include a wheat, stone, navy, and charcoal-pinstripe in a two- and three-button style. This is also a good place for satin ties ($68) and bow ties ($45).

Johnston & Murphy

While they carry all the casual must-haves for men, Johnston & Murphy have earned a reputation for high-quality leather shoes. Grooms going for a casual look will gravitate to the flat-front Venetians, while more traditional gentlemen will mull over the large selection of familiar wingtips. For the unsure, a cap-toe black-patent-leather oxford ($198) will smartly accessorize a formal suit or tuxedo.

Lord Willy can design signature shirts ($250) and suits in all-British fabrics (from $3,000), with a nod to a favorite period or even a wedding theme. For those seeking advice, “Mr. W” will consult one-on-one.

Paul Smith
