The Purple Label tuxedo comes in superluxurious wool with silk lapels ($4,000). The Black Label tuxedo, a slim-cut flat-front version, starts at $1,995. Any of the three Polo styles of tuxedo is a downright bargain at $1,095.
Rothmans

Saint Laurie Merchant Tailors

Fifth Ave., fifth fl.; 212-6431916; saintlaurie.comThey’ve been custom-making suits and tuxes since 1913—they even have an exclusive shade of midnight blue fabric woven for them in England—but grooms can expect to find modern and smart styles at this bona fide New York tailor. It takes about six weeks to make the suits ($1,500 to $2,000), but they can also do rush orders if need be; all are made on the premises.
Salvatore Ferragamo

Tuxedo options range from basic black ($2,450) to a trendy navy velvet, two-button, notch-lapel version ($2,400). And their vast catalog of ties make for superb groomsmen gifts.

Yamamoto’s Soho shop doesn’t carry tuxedos, but hip grooms go for his no-frills gabardine suits (from $2,500).
