Alger House

A private residence, this former carriage house retains most of its old-fashioned charm in the Garden Room and sweeping 2,500-square-foot ballroom. The house accommodates up to 125 guests and serves an eclectic menu of French, Mediterranean, and fusion specialties ($75 to $125 per person).

Ariana's Grand

Ariana’s catering spaces consist of three rooms: the Ariana (holds 50 to 100 guests), the Alexandra Room (70-160 guests), and the Loft (60-110 guests). Their new Woodbridge, NJ banquet hall can accommodate up to 350 people and features a rooftop cocktail area. For a six-hour wedding, prices start at $10,000.

Astra

By day, Astra is a bustling café; by night, an intmate venue featuring chef Charlie Palmer’s cuisine. Windows run along the north and east walls with views of Manhattan’s lights and the Queensboro Bridge. Astra can accommodate 140 guests without dancing (120 with), and 300 for cocktails. Prices range from $75 to $200 for dinner per guest.

Bathhouse Studios

Built in the early 1900s, the building served as a public bathhouse until the mid-sixties. Now it’s a sleek, industrial studio with exposed brick and soaring twenty-foot ceilings. An $8,500 price tag provides Studio A (4,000 square feet, with a state-of-the-art sound system) and Studio B (1,800 square feet, with makeup and wardrobe rooms) for 12 hours.

Branch

This event space and nightclub has a Brazilian cherrywood dance floor, a copper-covered maple bar, and multicolored slate floors. Seating options are flexible, comfortably accommodating a party of 125 to 150 guests, with plenty of space left for dancing. For a typical evening wedding, prices begin at $125 per person.

Bridgewaters

Each of the two lofty rooms of this dramatic event space at South Street Seaport seats 75 to 400 people. Guests will enjoy gorgeous views of the Brooklyn Bridge and New York Harbor, plus wraparound terraces. Buffet and seated wedding menus, including alcohol, start at $195 per person. No outside catering except kosher.

Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture

53 Prospect Park W., Park Slope, Brooklyn; 718-768-2972; bsec.org

The century-old Brooklyn landmark just across from Prospect Park has four event rooms for hire, including the lower-level cellar space and Garden Room, which leads to the back plot. The grand parlor with Tiffany bay windows can hold up to 100 people for cocktails (85 for a seated reception with a dance floor). The price is $650 an hour, catering not included.

The Campbell Apartment

Couples who book this former office and salon of a twenties business tycoon should expect plush couches, clubby paneling, and a massive stone fireplace, plus gourmet cuisine courtesy of Abigail Kirsch. The swank space comfortably accommodates up to 75 seated guests and 125 for cocktails. Prices range from $150 to $500 per person.

Capitale

Designed by Stanford White in 1894, this former Bowery Savings Bank embodies all the grandeur of Romanesque revival with 75-foot ceilings, a glass skylight, Corinthian columns, and marble mosaic floors. Capitale can accommodate 650 guests for dinner with cocktails being sipped in the 5,000-square-foot foyer. Prices upon request.

The Central Park Boathouse

This charming pavilion is set by the lake in the heart of the park; it features wraparound French doors that open to an English garden and wooden patios facing the water’s edge. The Boathouse’s event space holds up to 230 seated guests, from $145 per person. No outside catering except kosher.

Chanterelle

For foodie couples, Karen and David Waltuck’s Chanterelle is an elegant setting for 80 guests. The rotating menu from the regular restaurant proves Chanterelle can meet the needs of picky eaters and pull it off with style. Prices start at $125 per person for cocktails; $175 per person for dinner.

Cielo

18 Little W. 12th St., nr. Ninth Ave. 212-242-8539; cieloclub.com

This suede-bedecked hot spot in the meatpacking district, known for booking some of the best D.J. talent in New York, provides ample space for dancing. The venue is available for private parties of up to 350 people. Hors d’oeuvre from $22 to $38 per person; buffet dining from $55 to $80.

Cipriani Wall Street

With Ionic columns on the outside and Corinthian within, this Greek Revival building is perfect for couples looking to hold a ceremony and reception in a large space (the space is 16,000 square feet). The Grand Ballroom has marble walls and is topped with a huge dome that reaches to 70 feet. Cipriani takes care of all catering—couples should reserve well in advance. Prices upon request.

Cipriani 23rd St.

In terms of iconic Manhattan backdrops, this place is hard to beat. Cipriani took over the lease of the old 200 Fifth Club in April 2004. Much has remained the same, including the ornate 22-foot ceilings, the ballroom (accommodates 300 with dancing), and the Oak Room (400 for cocktails)—not to mention the Art Deco style. Prices upon request.

City Hall Restaurant

Between the Rose and Granite Rooms, City Hall Restaurant can accommodate anywhere from 32 to 220 guests. The Granite Room’s dark-walnut-and-brick bar and (of course) granite ceilings create a vibe of old-world elegance (starting at $4,000), while the Rose Room’s warmly colored walls offer a romantic and intimate atmosphere (starting at $2000).
